Welcome to the PHHP Diversity Website!
Diversity and inclusion are matters intrinsically linked to the work of this College. For our administrators, faculty and students, diversity means much more than a demographic statistic. As researchers and educators, our faculty must understand and appreciate values related to diversity and cultural competence in order to further their work in public health and the health professions. It is incumbent upon us to look at the factors that affect disease and wellbeing, and race and ethnicity–as well as other aspects of diversity—are significant contributors to inequities in health and healthcare. In our teaching and research, we impart this interest in diversity and inclusion to our students, and likewise we understand and appreciate how the diverse perspectives of our students and faculty enhance the mission of our College. At the College of Public Health and Health Professions, we strive to foster an open dialog about diversity and cultural competence so that we can succeed in our efforts to improve health equity, to prepare our students, and to make a positive impact in our state, the nation and the world.
