PHHP Hosts Second Diversity Day
Dr. Juan Gilbert, Andrew Banks Family Preeminence Endowed Chair and the Associate Chair of Research in the Computer & Information Science & Engineering Department, University of Florida, gave the keynote address at the second PHHP Diversity Day, held on October 23, 2014. Dr. Gilbert gave an insightful talk about his lab, the Human Experience Research Lab, which engages a diverse group of students in projects related to the design of voting machines and their impact on enfranchisement. This led to a broader discussion regarding the role of research and diversity in society. Dr. Gilbert’s talk was followed by a panel discussion. Also included in the day’s events were a reception and poster presentations, with the following students being recognized with “Outstanding Diversity Research” awards: Tanisha Hill-Jarrett, Esther Piervil, and Allyson Diggins.
